Back To Back Victorian Production Titles For Pumpa

Share

Darren Pumpa successfully defended his Victorian Production Sedan Title at Rushworth Speedway last night, but not without a fight.

Pumpa started the 30 lap main event on the outside of Stephen Laidlaw, and immediately took the lead, while Laidlaw lasted a single lap before retiring to the infield.

Jake Mills started to apply the pressure to the defending Champion, and on lap nine, Mills took the lead, with Pumpa and Andrew Cunningham now in third.

Meanwhile, Bob Bailey who started from position eight had moved to fourth, and was looking strong.

Bailey was not the only driver applying pressure, as Cunningham passed Pumpa on lap thirteen to move to second, and a lap later took the lead.  At that time, Mills would also retire, putting Pumpa back to second and Bailey momentarily into third.  No sooner had Bailey moved to third, than he would be out of the race, putting Danny Harrison into third place.

Pumpa took the lead back from Cunningham on lap seventeen, and after this time, he held the lead until the chequered flag.  Cunningham held second place, with Rodney Anderson storming home in the concluding stages to finish third after starting from position eleven, just pipping Adam Wilson who started from the back of the nineteen starters.

For Pumpa, he becomes the first Production Sedan driver to successfully defend his title, since Stephen Laidlaw in 2006.
