Daniel Ameduri Takes Street Stock Shootout

Share

Perth’s Daniel “Nudge” Ameduri put in one of the best drives of his Street Stock career scoring a popular win in front of an appreciative crowd, at the Geraldton City Speedway on Saturday night.

A field of nineteen started the thirty lap event which went green to chequer without a stoppage. Ameduri qualified on pole, but was outgunned at the start by fellow front row starter Moora’s Dale Cockman.

Cockman and Ameduri were joined by Carnarvon’s Kane Munro in the first few laps and these three had a real dog fight, with Munro hitting the lead and then retiring with a flat tyre. Cockman was then back in the lead, under consistent pressure from Ameduri.

On a track that was exceptionally demanding for all drivers and cars, Ameduri took advantage of a Cockman error to hit the lead. He started to establish a small break, and as Cockman fell back Perth’s Matt Amato who had started tenth began to move towards the front.

The race was run at a hard pace, and Ameduri was soon into lapped traffic. He was followed by Cockman, Carnarvon’s Daniel Pidala and Amato. Then there was a large group of cars led by Geraldton’s Jason Walsh and Moora’s Stuart McLean and Warren Vanzetti.

Amato was the driver to watch and he was soon past Pidala and closing on Cockman who was visibly slowing. Amato claimed Cockman and tried to chase down Ameduri, but with heavy traffic on all parts of the track it was virtually an impossible task.

There were great battles in the pack. Shark Bay drivers Hayden Norman and Daniel Stubbs were running hard, as was Moora’s Paul Rumbold. Carnarvon’s Damon Lyall and Kellerberrin’s Kieran Norman were also in the thick of it.

Over the last ten laps Ameduri seemed to find an extra gear and was able to use both the low and high line to maintain his pace. Without a yellow caution flag, there was no respite for the drivers.

Remarkably there were very few retirements, with only Geraldton’s Nathan O’Brien, Peter Dowie and Shane Winchbuist along with Moora’s Paul Rumbold (who ran out of tear offs) along with Kane Munro failing to complete the event.

At the end of thirty laps Ameduri greeted the chequered flag a good one hundred metres ahead of Matt Amato with a similar distance back to third placed Daniel Pidala, with Dale Cockman finishing in fourth.

Twenty one drivers nominated for the Street Stock Shoot Out with only Port Hedland’s Reece Jones and Moora’s Damon Brown failing to start the Feature.

Earlier in the night all drivers had contested nine heats with each driver getting three races each. Ameduri and Cockman both won two heats, with McLean, Munro, Amato, Dowie and Winch-buist claiming a win each.
