The 33rd Annual Far Western Championships were held this weekend at the Shark Bay Speedway and for the first time in its history, three different divisions of SSA Junior Sedans competed.

The ‘Little Stars’ as they were named for the weekend was for brand new drivers, including Rory Reynolds who was the youngest of three generations of his family competing on the day, having just turned ten years old.The Little Stars put on a good show and although Tayla Burton dominated the opening two heats, it was Haylee Strelley who would race from position three in the feature to grab the lead and go on to take the feature win, the first of her career.

The SSA New Star Junior Sedans also saw their winner coming from position three in the feature, with Makayla Hinsey repeating her older brother Seth’s efforts of seasons past to win the event.

Hinsey was able to pass the slightly more experienced from row of Vince Lindsay and Alyvia Ferraro to grab the lead early in the race.

Ferraro would set out after Hinsey while local Shark Bay member Beau Morgan made his way into third. He then made contact with Ferraro as he passed her on lap five, seeing him receive the protest flag with Ferraro dropping to fourth behind Lindsay.Lindsay moved into second on lap eight with Morgan heading infield, but back up front it was all Hinsey as she too grabbed her first career feature race win.

In the Top Stars it was all National Champion Mitchell Baker, leading all twelve laps of the feature and emulating his father Richard’s Far Western winning efforts from way back in 1999.

Baker was able to hold off several challenges from a determined Seth Hinsey who was looking to defend his win in the Far Westerns from last year, and grab his fourth overall but fell one spot short. Third place was the impressive Riley Hanson.

Congratulations to all the SSA Junior Sedans who competed on the day at Shark Bay Speedway.
