After winning all three heats yesterday, Anthony Beare won his final heat today, to be undefeated in the preliminary heats, before demolishing the A Main field in an exciting A Main, of the West Australian Street Stock Championship at the Laurance Scrap Metals, Ellenbrook Speedway today.

Anthony Beare of South Australia, a former National Champion, was the dominant driver all weekend, leading throughout an action packed and exciting 35 lap final.

Beare had to survive a couple of restarts including a complete restart and another on lap two, with the first retirements being Bob Wakefield and Greg Avins.

Mount Barkers Matt Fulcher jumped into second place in a hectic opening to the event with Michael Hamon, Stephan Cooper and Daniel Ameduri, all passing Warren Oldfield who started slowly.

Cooper and Oldfield both passed Hamon on lap five as Hamon ran wide, with Ameduri and State Champion Daniel Pidala joining the battle for the minor placings. Jamie Oldfield, a pre race favourite was forced to withdraw after hitting the fence after five laps. Cooper, a lap later passed Matt Fulcher, in what turned out to be a great dice for the ensuing laps, with Beare comfortably in the lead.

Warren Oldfield spun on lap eleven bring the field under caution, but moments later Beare started to stretch the lead again, although Stephan Cooper did stay with the dominant South Australian for a couple of laps.

The last twenty three laps went without a stoppage, with Stephan Cooper spinning while comfortably in second place with twelve laps to go. At this time, cars began to overheat, with Martin Kelly withdrawing, while Warren Oldfield would join him two laps later. Mark Wynne and Peter Seaton would also retire five laps from home.

Beare was more that half a lap ahead of Michael Hamon with two laps to go, when the leaders car started to show signs of distress, which gave a faint hope to the large crowd on hand, that a West Australian would still win.

The last lap would be a crawl for Beare, as his ailing car made it to the chequered flag, to become the first non West Australian to win the State Title. Michael Hamon drove a gallant race to finish second, while Stephan Cooper and Daniel Ameduri would finish on the podium. Damien Amato would finish fifth ahead of Jason Oldfield, who started from the rear of the field in the A Main, after racing in a substitute car was a credible sixth, with veteran Frank Kulker seventh while State Champion Daniel Pidala and Mark Furphy would be the only other finishers.

An award for the hard charger of the Championship was won by Tim Coxall, who transferred from the C Main, which he won, the B Main in which he finished third and the A Main, where he was placed seventh when he retired on lap eighteen.

The B Main will go down in the record books as the longest race in history, taking 1 hour 21 minutes and 18 seconds to complete, after numerous stoppages, one of which was to repair the track for a dangerous hole which had developed. Officials moved the curb line for the remainder of the meeting around the hole, which narrowed turn three and four to 19 metres wide. Damien Amato won the event from Frank Kulker and Tim Coxall, while Coxall defeated Paul Bowman and Ken MacPherson in an entertaining C Main.
