Super Sedans
The Super Sedan as we know it has come a long way since its inception. In its infancy the evolution as you see it today came from an ordinary passenger car, a rollcage (in most cases) was inserted into the cabin area of the car and whatever made the engine go fast was used. Rafferty’s rules you might say or run what you brung.
From this humble beginning and the need for uniformity within the specifications and a high regard for safety the class started its progression to what you are seeing today a sophisticated and powerful purpose built race car.

The super sedan of today is what is termed a chassis car with either fibreglass / aluminium body mounted to it. The body must be representative of a sedan type passenger car. Most cars are rear wheel drive, front wheel drive is accepted. Four-wheel drives are not accepted.
The suspension components is mainly left to the constructor / competitor. Most competitors prefer to use a coil over unit at each wheel for ease of race set-up. As an example of another form of suspension used, torsion bar suspension is preferred by some competitors. Electronic traction control systems not permitted
Rear axle choice is free. The majority of competitors use a quick-change ratio differential. This is a purpose built rear axle, which allows the ratio to be changed very quickly. Ratios can be changed within five minutes and the scope of change is great (within 200 rpm). Transmission is optional provided it incorporates reverse gear. Majority of the competitors gears the car so that it operates in top gear.
Engine is open provided the cubic engine capacity does not exceed 366ci. In V8 type engines the use of an aluminium crankcase is prohibited, and likewise fuel injection. There is a vast range of engine options currently being used from Chevrolets, Ford (Cleveland), Mazda Rotary, Holden etc.
Super sedans are restricted to a weight parity ruling and that is the minimum weight when gridded up on the dummy grid in the pits is to exceed a minimum weight. V8’s 1140kg, 6 cylinder and rotary 1040kg and 4cylinder 910kg.
