Penn Cruises To Victory

Nathan Penn has cruised to victory in Round Five of the 2018/2019 Cranecorp WA Modified Sedan Series held at Attwell Park Speedway in Albany on Saturday Night (9th March).

Penn survived two late restarts in the twenty lap main event defeating Matt Noakes and Branden Fraser to make an all Ford podium.

Fifteen Modified Sedans converged on the South Coast venue with persistent drizzly rain sweeping across the region for most of the evening.

Kevin Ellement would be out after hot laps after finding the concrete wall causing significant damage to his Holden Commodore.

The six heat races held on the night provided some great action with the track conditions near perfect for Speedway Sedan racing.

Nathan Penn and Matt Noakes each won two heat races with Branden Fraser and local Matt Kata winning the remaining two.

Sean Theyer and Sandy Macpherson would be out for the night early in proceedings with mechanical issues with their Holden Commodores with former State Champion Allan Mortimer sustaining a blown gearbox in his final heat race.

The Southern Stump and Mulching Services Shootout provided a great spectacle for the spectators with Nathan Penn narrowly prevailing.

Eleven cars faced the starter in the main event with Nathan Penn pulling away from the field in the early stages.

Shane Dubberlin was the first retirement of the race on lap five with the Penn enjoying a handy lead over the rest of the field.

Matt Noakes quickly settled into second place with a four car battle raging for over ten laps between Fraser, Calon Ball, Matt Kata and the current State Champion Anthony King.

With seven laps remaining Kata and King would come together while battling for fifth place with Kata spinning to the infield.

Five laps remained when Brett Mills brought the yellow lights on once more after hitting the wall in turn two which was the final stoppage of the race with Matt Kata soon heading infield.

Calon Ball also retired from the race shortly after with a wheel bearing issue during the stoppage with Penn again pulling away from the field when the green lights came back on.

Nathan Penn would negotiate the final five laps to defeat Matt Noakes, Branden Fraser and a fast finishing Paul Stevens.

Jayden McCuish and Anthony King would come together on the final lap with the two spinning after contact with Merv Penn inheriting fifth place as a result.

Penns victory was his fifth main event win of his career with the WA Modified Sedan Series and he now enjoys a handy lead in the points standings heading into the final two rounds of this summers tournament.

Round Six of the 2018/2019 Cranecorp WA Modified Sedan Series will be held at the Makit Hardware Narrogin Speedway on Saturday 23rd March 2019.

The Western Australian Modified Sedan Drivers Association would like to thank Totally Independent Tyre Service for their support of the fifth round.
